What is the best
way to teach the English language? Is teaching
English as the first language the same as
teaching it as a second? Do you have your
own classroom techniques that work and would
like to share with other English language
teachers? Do you have questions about the
teaching of English? They may be on resource
development, curricular interpretation and
implementation, teaching of literature (big
or small L), or language programmes for adults.
If yes, join us in this forum.

The Language and
Literacy Forum deals with issues related to
teaching young learners. Issues like maximising
learning through homework and the controversy
surrounding the use of the first language
to teach English are some of the areas we
have dealt with. Our Language and Literacy
Department is currently engaged in a project
on the teaching of short stories and poetry
in the Contemporary Children's Literature
programme. Would you like to share your experience
and questions about teaching young learners?
If you do, join our discussions with other
portal users to examine issues related to
teaching young learners.

integrated into language lessons? Do you have
any opinions on the matter? Do you have ideas
on ICT integration that you would like to
share with other practitioners? If you do,

The notion that classroom practice should be informed by classroom investigation is now accepted by most ESL practitioners. More and more teachers are investigating their classroom practices. Are you one of them? If you have any research-related queries, or if you would like to share ideas and explore issues relating to research, this forum is for you.

Recent announcements
by the Ministry of Education suggest that
all aspects of school-based as well as public
or high-stakes testing and assessment is under
serious review. We would like to know you
stand on this. Are you for or against a major
revamp? If you are happy with what is already
in place, would you care to tell us why? Or
do you think the present scenario has had
a negative effect on teaching and learning?
If so, why and how? If you could have a say
in influencing policy and decisions, what
changes would you like to see made and why?
Let's get a discussion going and see what
our peers and colleagues have to say.

We want to create
a reading school. How do we start? Do you
have any tips on book selection and collection
development? We now have timetabled periods
in the library. How can these be used most
profitably? Do you have any suggestions for
activities to promote greater use of our resource
centre?
